What dryer vent maintenance actually involves

The dryer gets pulled out first. The transition hose comes off at the wall. We check the run type before touching a brush, because a short lateral through-wall run in postwar single-story stock is a ten-minute job and a closet run through soffit to a roof jack is not. Rotating brush on a flexible rod goes in from one end. Air pushes the loosened lint the direction it already wants to travel. Then the termination gets opened and cleared by hand.

The exterior end matters more than most people expect. Louvered hoods pack solid with lint and dust behind the flaps. Roof-cap screens do the same.
